I had gotten a litter of 6 newborn kittens. 4 didn't make it. Wasting Kitten
Syndrome. But the 2 remaining ones are out of the woods and are doing
great:
http://www.amazes.us/album/albums/userpics/10001/kittysiblings.jpg
And while I'm at it, here is one of the 3 border collie pups. They should be
fluffier if they were pure bred, so I think they are a mix:

All 3 are doing GREAT! :)

Me too. I'm abt to lose a 7-mth old cat & maybe a mth plus old kitten. Kittens are cute but they're not easy to take care. The kittens start weaning last week. I don't know what really happens to the other kitten. Lets hope she can make it.

MissDolittle
06-24-2007, 11:17 AM
They are not helpless if you are there to lend a helping hand. Thank you for that! All I can tell you is not to take these losses personal, because they are not. You have done everything you can, the rest is not for you to decide, so you don't have to beat yourself up over it. It's really that simple, even though it might sound a bit cold, it is not. It's life..and death and we are not God or whatever you believe in.

Yes, to some people this dumpster cat looks ugly. It's probably bcoz we don't have colorful cats/kittens. The 1st time I saw her, I fell in love with her already. My sister found her somewhere & brought her home. She was really lucky bcoz everyone loves her. But too bad, she's gone now. I was really sad this morning when I saw her corpse. Yup, at least we did everything we could to save her.
Actually I never felt like this before but ever since last year, I'm beginning to like kittens/cats.

I saw a pic of the most ugliest dog in the world. His owner was abt to put him to sleep when no one wanted to buy him. Luckily there was one buyer coming to the rescue. No matter how ugly some animals are - they're still the cutest things. I'm sure you all will agree with me.

I don't know why anyone would say that beautiful tortoise shell kitten was ugly.
I'm sorry for your loss Nouri. Rest easy knowing that you gave her love during her short time here and that's what is important.

Thanks WingedCat. I'll be fine. One of our kittens is abt to die. She's getting weaker. My sister said there's nothing much I can do since she's only 5-wk old. Luckily her brother is in a perfect condition. He's quite fat, very naughty & playful.

Shake & Phoenix.
BTW, Shake is very ill rite now. She's dying! I just realized she looks very weak during lunch hrs just now. Last nite she eats well, naughty & playful as usual. I guess it's b'coz of the cold weather even though we place the kittens in the pat vending with thick blanket. It has been raining heavily since last wk.

I am sorry to hear about your kittens. Have you had any of them tested for feline leukemia? It is a horrible disease that takes the lives of many cats. I am not a huge cat fan, but I do have a cat that I rescued (he just kept coming in our yard and meowing at the back door, I couldn't say no). We tried to find his owners (put up found cat posters, called the vets, called the shelters, even tried putting him on freecyle), but no one claimed him so now he is ours. He is a beautiful and seemingly healthy cat, but we took him to the vets and he has feline leukemia. It is pretty much where they don't have an immune system and eventually just get sick and have no way of fighting it and die. I was going to adopt Rumble (that's what we named the cat), but since he has feline leukemia, we are keeping him. I couldn't bear to give him up and have someone fight to keep him alive when he gets sick. I talked with a lot of people with cats that died from feline leukemia and that was their number one regret, they tried to keep their cat alive and gave them all kinds of meds and all it did was prolong their suffering. Every last person said they would take in another feline leukemia cat, but the moment it showed signs of illness, they would put them to sleep and not allow them to die that horrible death. It might be worth it to test for feline leukemia, because if one has it, they can spread it to all the other cats (it is spread through the saliva so they often get it after getting in a fight with a cat with it or if they share the same water dish or something.

02-19-2008, 04:54 PM
Wow, thanks for sharing that. Being an owner of 4 leukemia positive cats, I'm not looking forward to them getting sick. So far, 3 of them are 6 years old and 1 is 12 years old, none of them got ever sick.
They had their fights and wounds and scraps, but all healed just fine.
I'm glad I have all of mine fixed, because the ugly part of the disease for kittens is that they can get to like 6 weeks of age before they start showing symptoms. And they all die.
If they catch it after they are 6 months old, they are ok and can get very old without showing any symptoms. But they can also get sick early and die.

Thanx squirrelsrule for sharing. Boy, you've a long nick. In fact, the 3 kittens are my sister's pets. I only look after them when I'm at home. Hopefully after this, she'll bring them to the vet.
MissDolittle, our other cats like Akeer & Tiger are doing very well. Tiger never got sick since she was a little kitten except eye infection. She's quite chubby.

It's okay. A few wks after Shake died, Keanu got sick & died too. And today when I woke up, I found Phoenix is no longer breathing. In fact I wanted to post something yesterday but I was very sick. I got to see the doctor since I was vomiting the whole nite & couldn't take care of Phoenix. I didn't know she was sick but she was crying the whole morning. So I put her into a thick sock, gave her medicine & she was doing alrite. Last nite I was unable to attend her b'coz of my condition but I managed to cover her with thick blanket & gave her medicine. But too bad she can't make it. I realize she ate less unlike usual she'll make noisy sound while enjoying her food.
It's raining season back home & it's very cold. We never put her outside to sleep & only in the cage (pat vending) with thick blanket.
Oh God, I'm going to miss her a lot! You know she was quite a "fierce" (get angry quickly) little kitten when you tease her. Whenever she played or teased other cats like Akeer & Tiger, she'll make noises. Hmmmm...... I hope the mother cat will get pregnant again.

I haven't buried Phoenix yet since it's still cold out there. She looks chubby even though she's dead. I don't know why I feel so heartbroken with her death. I didn't expect her to die.
Phoenix looks exactly like Princess.

Thanx salt&pepper'smommy. Feeling a little bit better now. The little kittens never played outside the house. We only let them play on the balcony to get the sunshine. I guess my sister overfed Phoenix. Poor Phoenix. But then the cold nites might have killed her too despite of the thick blanket & thick socks.

We've one mother cat at home. The problem is - my sister doesn't want to spay her. I don't know why too. That's why we've to bear with it esp. when the mother cat has to get pregnant. In fact we've adopted 3 kittens during the past yrs. Thanx for the brilliant idea MissDolittle. I might want to adopt homeless kittens soon.

Your sister sounds very irresponsible. That's the same attitude that keeps our shelters filled here too...there is just no way you can make sense to them. Well, I'm glad that you are around to look out of them :).
nouri
03-16-2008, 03:23 AM
Yup very irresponsible! The mother cat has been giving birth since the past 10 yrs as far as I can remember. And you know what? Only 3 of her babies survived ie. Benny, Akeer & Tiger. Unfortunately Benny died 2 yrs ago after delivering her babies. All her babies died too.
I take care after the kittens b'coz she's always busy with her things. Furthermore, kittens are cute little things. If I don't, who'll do it? I'm glad both Akeer & Tiger survive.
Actually we only have 5 cats at home.
MissDolittle
03-16-2008, 03:38 PM
That's not only irresponsible but stubborn too! Did it never occur to your sister that the cat might be ill or have something wrong with the genes? Allowing her to give birth and having all these babies die, is really cruel. I hope the cat won't get pregnant anymore at all. She deserves a break. :)
nouri
03-18-2008, 01:08 AM
I can't imagine getting pregnant every year for the next 10 - 15 yrs. The same thing applies to the poor mother cat. I wish I could bring her to the vet & get her spayed but then she's not my cat. My sister won't be happy with me. That's why I'm willing to look after the kittens. I do that since early 2006 due to awareness & humanity.
One of Msian radio stations is promoting the society to spay/neuter their pets. The ad is very funny too - the owners refuses to spay their pets b'coz they don't want them to be lazy & experience motherhood. Then there's a question abt willingness to be a mother, a grandmama to the "incoming" puppies & kittens. I can't help laughing but the message is good. Kudos to this radio station for making an effort to create awareness.

03-18-2008, 12:51 PM
Do get her spayed, they don't turn out that lazy, if they were lazy before they'll still be lazy, there's little recovery time, like a week. Your sister is being irresponsible, poor cat, she needs a rest, as well as you. You can take her, you just need to look after her a day or two after the surgery and then whatch the stitches closely. You sister needs to know that if she loves her cat she would want her to be more at ease and happy.

Thanx MissDolittle. Hehehehe..... I didn't know that Pinkie means little finger. I'm gonna inform the kids abt it. Pinky is a very naughty kitten. Not really that obedient like Tiger. I miss Tiger a lot.
I got the pics of Teru & Vadder. I used my hp camera to snap their pics somewhere in 2006. Both were little kittens when we found them at the front of our gate. Someone must have left them there. Guess they know very well we love cats.
http://i392.photobucket.com/albums/pp4/nouri_tupai/Teru.jpg
Teru is the father of Akeer. His name sounds Japanese. Hehehehe........ He never came back since April - May last year. I guess he was hit by a vehicle.
http://i392.photobucket.com/albums/pp4/nouri_tupai/Vadder.jpg
This is Vadder. He's still alive, not really that healthy. The vet suggested to my sister to put him to sleep bcoz of uncured sickness. Something to do with a virus. He got thin at one time & lose eating appetite. Somehow he's putting on weight again & starts to eat again. That's good news.

Michael & MissDolittle,
We've no idea at all. When he was only like 5 mths old, my sister brought her to the vet. The vet said Vadder is suffering a disease that can't be cured & recommended to put him to sleep. Luckily he's still alive today. His saliva is sticky & smelly too. My sister baths him twice a wk. The good news - he's gaining weight & always hungry.

We feed him with fresh cooked fish esp mackerel & also canned food. Let me check with my sister whether she's feeding her cat right. Nowadays he's always hungry & I hope that's a good sign. He's putting on weight too. According to one of my sisters, Vadder doesn't smell like before. But his saliva is a bit slimy.

I'm not a cat lover but then if the cats/kittens are already in the house or even outside the house, I'll feed & take care of them. I don't really know why. Maybe it's b'coz I see them everyday & feel that they're part of the family. So if they get sick, I'll bring them to the vet b'coz nobody in the house will do that. So I've to do it.
