View Full Version : Kitten Problems

My gorgeous cat gave us four of the most beautiful kitten four weeks ago. They have been progressing nicely, causing mayhem all over the living room. However, in the last two days one of the kittens got a 'scratch' injury to his eye, nothing to worry about, or so I thought. It started to close and weep a little, and still I was too concerned.

This morning I woke to find three of my four beautiful furballs have weeping, watery eyes, there is not any colour in the discharge, but it does look mighty uncomfortable. They all seem happy enough, eating and playing as usual. I am worried that this is something more than a scratch injury, more like an eye infection.

I am planning on taking my furballs and queen to the vets on monday, but I am worried this may be too late. (I would be devestated to lose any of my gorgeous new additions as I hand reared the queen, my pride and joy)

Is there any cause for concern, and more importantly is there anything I can do, beside the obvious bathing until I take the little furballs to the vets?

Kind Regards and Many Thanks
Heathie

Hi KittiHeaven and welcome on board :).

I can't give you a medical explanation why this happens or why what I works, but this is what I do when I get kittens with teary eyes..and 80% have them, so it's not unusual:

I get the injectable penicillin suspension (for cattle or horses from a feed store fridge. DO NOT INJECT! You will need a syringe to extract the Penicillin from the bottle, but that's all you will need that syringe for!

ONLY USE TOPICAL! Put a drop into each eye of each kitten, infected or not and wipe it off with a cotton ball. Repeat after 12 hours. Eyes should be ok after 24 hours, if not repeat again. If there is no improvement after 48 hours, take kittens to the vet. In all the hundreds of kittens I have raised I have yet have a kitten NOT get better on the stuff.
