Hi, I'm in the process of trainig both salt and pepper to use the litter box, so far they are making an effort to go in there, they both pee in the litter box, but I can't get them to poop there, they do it in their box instead, and If one decides to pee on the floor the other one follows, so how can I convince them to use the box?

BTW, they have normal stool and urine.

Just put them in there after you fed them. There is really not much you can do..give them time, it'll work out on it's own. :)

My kitty trained herself. Most cats do I had always thought.

Perhaps they don't like the litter you are using. What kind is it?

When I first started I got the fresh step clumping litter and she would have nothing to do with it.

My sister-in-law told me about a wheat based litter called "The World's Best Cat Litter" - which is very expensive and out of my budget. However, I did get an alternate brand called Swheat Scoop and have had no problems whatsoever. Also, the wheat based litter has no unpleasant odor.

I have not had a cat for many years. Mainly because I loathe litterbox odor. With the wheat litter, I have had NO issues with litter odor (with cleaning out every 1-2 days and I clean the box and put new litter in every 1-2 weeks) BTW - this is scoopable litter so that is why it lasts so long.

Good luck.

Thanks for the tip, I'm using one for multiple cats, I they are getting the hang of it but, they do the monkey say monkey do thing, salt is a bit inmature so he hasn't gotten what the litter box is for, pepper uses it, but when salt has an accident pepper does the same thing. They are now behaving like two year olds, they are suppose to start eating from a saucer, but they see it, they smell the food and they come to me to baby themselves.

Makes me happy I've got just the one kitten then! Sounds like you've got your hands full with the little buggers. You've got to give them tough love mommy. When they come to you for the baby treatment - don't give it to them.

Perhaps you can put some of the poop in the litter box. Also, maybe if you are still rubbing their bottom any to get them to go - do it in the litter box so they get the message.

Also, get some neutralizer from the pet store. I know dogs will continue to go in an area they have before over and over unless you remove the smell. Bleach and cleaners will not work. You have to use a neutralizer to remove the scent. Cats may be the same way. In the least, the neutralizer will remove the smell from your house.

They may not like the litter either. Try using some shredded up newspaper and see if you don't get better results. Then you would know for sure.

Cats are funny little creatures! Good luck

thanks, they are getting the hang of it, at least they scratch their box when they want to go, they are not having that many accidents, only that I have to whatch them since they have a parasite infection that they got from they mom, they are taking medicine and all, but it makes it difficult for them to go.

I use ice-cream plastic container for the litter box. When the kitten wants to pee, he just climbs into the container & does his things. But after that I've to clean the container. Otherwise, he'd do it on the floor.

Good thinking! For the very young ones I use an old baking form, a very flat one, so they can climb in..works like a charm.

Thanks for the tips, they now need a permanent litter box, I'm using shoebox tops, and I ran out of those, they now go by themselves and have recuperated from their infection.

I use shoebox tops too & ran out of stock. So I decided to use ice cream plastic container instead. BTW how're salt & pepper doing? Maybe you can post their pics here.

I'm going to try those, I went shopping around for a litter box for these two but they all were for adult cats, I'm sure they can climb to them since they are learning to leap and climb on to things, specially my legs, but they are going to hate going to the litter box because it'll be dificult. They are now in the I'm going to hunt you stage, they hide in the shadows to jump on to me or my mother, and they are now eating on their own. I'll post some pics as soon as I take some this week, they are changing every week.

I still use the ice cream plastic container. It's very convenient.
