My daughter is spending the night with a friend and called me to tell me they have one kitten left that she could take. So in the morning when I pick her up she will have a new kitten. Kind of nice to have a friend for Little Girl. My problem is this. The new kitten this time is a boy. I've It's been about 17 years since I've had a male cat and can't remember at what age they should get fixed so they don't spray the house. What is the right age to do this for a male cat. I generally don't get my females fixed since none of them have ever been allowed to get out of the house. I've always been very good at making sure my cats never roam. I'm too afraid that they would get in a fight and be hurt or even killed. Thank you

5-6 months would be the right age to neuter a male, depending on the vet.
My vet does it at 4 months of age and I have heard of vets doing it as early
as 6 weeks.

You don't have to worry about the kittens fighting..your female will me sooo
happy to have a friend of her own kind. You can put 100 kittens together and
they will not fight, only play and cuddle. It's a different story with adult cats!

I would strongly suggest to spay the female too at the same age you get
the male neutered, simply for health reasons. There is the risk of cancer
for examle if the cat is not spayed.

Your kitties have a great home with you!!! :)

My daughter came home with the other kitty. Right now they're just kind of beating each other up. They're about the same age, but the new one is definitly heavier than the other. It's a pudgy little thing. My daughter said at her friends house they also have a dog and the kitty was eating the dog food also. Does this explain why the new kitty might be heavier than the other?

No, dogfood is for dogs and kitten food for kittens and cat food for adult cats.
If a kitten eats dogfood only without supplements it will eventually cause
health problems. Purina Kitten Chow with 40% Crude Protein is the best
for a growing cat.

As to why he is bigger than the female..he's probably a different breed.
Cats have the same breed differences as dogs...I had baby kittens of
2 lbs and an ounce, same age. Just like as if you have a chihuahua and
a great dane puppy, they sure won't be the same size.

I don't think they are beating up on each other, they are playing. It sure
looks like fighting sometimes, but I doubt it, because this would be a first
for me. :)

Hm, that's a problem I have never run into. I hope somebody can give you advice on this. And please keep us updated if you find out more about it. I'm very curious. I hope it's not gonna be too painful for the kitten. What's his name? Got pics? Welcome on board!!! Geeze, I sound like I'm talking backwards, sorry...very busy today lol.
