PETA (people for the ethical treatment of animals) has very honorable goals and strong attention from the public. but i still can't decide if PETA is good or bad. one day they'll support some crazy demonstration, and i think they give animal lovers a bad name, and the next day they'll work to get some wonderful law passed, and i'll think they're amazing!

ARGH any thoughts on this?

I see it the same way, so I stick to what I like and ignore the rest. They
sure can go overboard sometimes, but they have the good of the animals
in mind.

I like the "idea" of what they do, but in many cases they go too far.

Not to mention the fact that they are killing more animals then they should be from what I've read.

I'm holding off on being a member until I learn more.

yeah

i get the enewsletter, and i check their site sometimes, that's about it. the thing is, they sometimes can't get into high-security laboratories, so they fake the lab and videotape it, all the while treating the animals really badly so they can build sympathy for the animals who are in real labs. so i have an issue trusting some of their videos.....but they still have good info, and bring animals into the media, even if it is over the top sometimes.

it's a give and take, i guess. :?

I will say they had a hand in my going veg. The videos I watched were traumatic.

yeah, those videos do cut to the core. whenever i feel my resolve as a vegetarian shaking, i'll just pull up PETA and go to their video gallery. it's pretty effective. and considering the size and lobbying power of the meat industry, going veg isn't just about the animals anymore.....it's about the environment and protecting our rights, too. i went to a local sierra club seminar that was devoted to JUST the crap that comes out of factory farms. it's not only devastating to the water supply, but also to the real estate in the surrounding areas. people who live in these small towns have to deal with the stench and the pollution, and they're stuck because no one will buy their houses. it's really terrible watching a grown man cry because his farm, his family heritage, has been decimated by factory farms and the feces that is produced by them. it's not fertilizer at that point; it's diseased filth.

hehehe, sorry to go on a rant. i know that most of us here are probably already environmentally aware. :D
