I have a new house guest for the next 6-8 weeks. A mother cat and her 5 one week old kittens were at the shelter, and they needed a foster home. So I couldn't leave them there. The mom is a mackeral tabby, 4 of the kittens are black and one is a tabby. We think the black ones are boys and the tabby is a girl.
Oh yea, we are naming the kittens and the mom after men and women who were instrumental in founding our nation (1500s-1800s). We have named to tabby kitten Anne Justis after the wife of a man who signed the Declaration of Independence. The mother cat is also named after the wife of a signer of the Declaration, but you know what I cannot remember the whole name, I know it is Lucy somebody though:smile20:. We have chosen Ceaser Rodney ( a signer of the Declaration of Independence) as a name for one of the boys. Does anybody have any ideas for names for the other three boys? If you think of a girls name go ahead we may be wrong about the genders!

I promise I will get pictures soon. I was giving them all time to settle in first. They are all doing great, one little guy does have a little eye infection in one eye, but I've got meds to put in it. We have chosen names for everybody now. The mom is Lucy Nelson and the girl kitten is Anne Justis Morton (we just call her Anne Justis). The boys names are Ceaser Rodney, Rufus King, Jared Ingersoll, and Roger Sherman. We haven't figured out which boy gets which name yet. Just thought I'd update and I will try to get pictures this evening.

Well at least it is on there:smile29: . If you click on Lucy Nelsons picture it will take you to a page with the ones of the kittens on it too(on the right hand upper corner). I hope that made sense. Maybe one day I will get the hang of this picture posting! I will keep trying though. You never get anywhere if you give up!

You're getting the hang of it, slowly but surely! Remember, you can also edit your own posts and correct errors and play around that way.

Just a little update. Lucy Nelson is losing her milk supply(I don't know why!?) and I am having to take over the feeding of the kittens.
Here are a few pictures. The first is Lucy Nelson wanting attention after returning from watching my fish on the table behind her. Then there is Ceaser Rodney, He is my favorite. He is the smallest kitten but has the biggest personality. Then the pig of the litter Roger Sherman. And lastly the other two boys (not named yet) and the little tabby Anne Justis. I will try to get better pictures of the kittens, the black ones are hard to get good pictures of.

I hear ya on getting pictures of black animals, no matter what!!
They are adorable! They should be starting to eat solids by now, don't they? Maybe momma is weaning them already?

The kittens are only about 2 weeks old. Their eyes were just opening last weekend when I got them and their eyes open at about 8 days. So they won't be eating solid food for a few more weeks.
We are wondering if the stress from being in the shelter and then moving her to my house all with new kittens affected her milk supply.
Just so long as they all do well, I'll be happy!:smile29:

Wow, they look a lot older in the picture! Mine usually start nibbling on dry food when they are 3 weeks old though, but really go at it at a week or 2 later. I still haven't gotten any kittens, wow. Not that I mind, the Esbilac is running low already! Those Border Collies suck it down!

The kittens are starting to nibble on solid food now, thank goodness! They are really starting to show their different personalities more too. Just this morning while I was feeding Roger Sherman, Rufus King bumped into him and started swatting at him. Sherman starting growling and pushing Rufus away. It was halarious. I will get new pictures soon. They have grown so much.
Lucy Nelson dicovered our pet mice and she wants to hunt them all the time. She doesn't understand why we always take her off their cage.LOL.

I got 2 newborns in earlier, cold and lifeless. I sub-q'ed them and they are coming around now, but one is gurgling, I think they tried to feed her before and aspirated her maybe...she keeps arching backwards to breathe, but they both suckled and drank a lil. Gotta wait and see.

Well, I just took Lucy back to the shelter. She was not feeling well and the kittens were driving her crazy, she was growling and hissing at them this morning. She was glad when we took some of them out of the room.
The kittens are doing great though. Jared is on an antibiotic because one of my pet rats bit his toe and it go infected. Jared was climbing up the side of the rat cage.
I just got a light orange tabby kitten yesterday. She looks to be about three weeks old but already laps her milk and cleans herself. She plays like an older kitten too. She is so sweet. The other kittens don't like her though!

Hehe, sounds like my Darra. Every time she had a litter she gave them 3 weeks to grow up and get out or she'd start up a war. Hissing, pushing, and even went so far with one litter to take 4 of the babies at about 5 weeks old and carry them out the screen door and onto the front stoop, then come back in and take a nap on the fridge like nothing had happened. She never went back for them, and looked insanely irate at me for bringing them back inside. But of course, I didnt share her sentiments about leaving 4 wide eyed babies only a few yards from Main Street going wth?! there is an outside too?

I'm just waiting for Serenity to act that way. She's spending more and more time away from the lil ones. They are crunching up the dry food and go in the litterbox and I think I'll be taking 3 of them to the shelter for adoption already. They are 5 weeks old now. I'll keep 2 back to make the separation easier on Serenity and also easier on drying up.
I put her on petfinder.com today, hopefully somebody calls about her soon...I have no room for an adult cat. It's easy to keep her confined as long as she has the kittens, but once they are gone, she would be alone in a cage all day.
I have to vaccinate her tomorrow, should be save now, but I still can't let her roam with my other cats, they would first not accept her, second she hates dogs and it would be one big war zone here.
