My LalaLucy (black cat) came crawling up to the house earlier today, crying. She had not been around for a couple of days, which is not unusual, because she sleeps in the neighbor's shed during the day and I'm used not seeing her and I'm not always outside or paying attention in the evening.
To make a long story short, she's in surgery right now having her tail amputated. Best guess: dog got a hold of her.
And there is only one stray dog running around here that I have refused to call animal control on so far, because it's a pitbull and he would have zero chance. Unfortunately that dog also killed a chicken this morning, so I'm afraid that next time I see him I will have to call it in. I cannot have a dog running around killing other animals :smile20: .
With Lucy having leukemia and not the best immune system she needs ya'll cross your fingers.

She made it through the surgery ok, now we have wait and see. I'll pick her up in the morning.

I'm sorry to hear about your kitty. I hope she makes it through great. :smile21:
I know what you mean about the dog too. At least our shelter here doesn't pick on certain breeds of dogs. In fact our county animal ordinance specifically prohibits anything breed specific. The shelter has several pitbulls right now.

Thanks! She's back home now...her shaved butt looks awful, but she sounds better and wants to cuddle already :).

Awwe, I wish Lucy a great recovery! We once had a dog that got into our yard and chased Smokie under a pile of logs. We think one of them fell on him because he could barely get through the cat door and had trouble walking, and when we got him to the vet, he didn't even growl. :O He was alright after a week's rest though.

Thanks, Lucy is doing great! She's her lil mean self again, hehehe. Na, she's only mean when I have to give her the amox! I would be too! I'm trying to get some good pics of her, but her being black, it's not that easy.

I get what you mean, giving antibiotics to a cat is difficult, you end up all scrached up

just a question for the future....but how do you give meds to a cat?? we have trouble getting her into carrying case let alone feeding her something she doesn't want......i'm sure at some point in her life we'll have to so i was wondering...

I can sympathize with you MissD about giving her her meds. We once had to medicate all 5 of our cats at one time. They got their meds twice a day. OH Boy!! Something I never want to repeat! Besides the obvious I don't want the cats sick:smile29: .
I am glad she is doing much better though.
I'm not sure how to explain giving a cat medicine but usually your vet will show you how if you ask.

well, just arm yourself with patience and a good strategy, 'cause once they know you're giving them medicine they run and hide.

When it came to pills, I would wrap Neko in a towel, but it was easy since she was a kitten. When it came to putting cream in Graffiti's eye, I would kneel on the ground and and put her between my knees, facing the same direction as I was, pinning her down with my butt, basically. Fun times!

In order to medicate my cats I have developed a fool-proof strategy for one-man medicating that works like a charm.... after the 5 hours of "here kitty kitty!" and running them down. No, Kitty wont like it, but when have they ever been happy that you defy them?
And look! it's in a video-ish form.

Had to develop this technique when I found out that my husband knew nothing about treating, or assisting during treatment. The cats still done like it much, but I only have to do it this way with one of them (little miss attitude) the others have all moved on to the upright version. I have noticed that the upright version works better for men and smaller chested women, as for it kitty's back is to your chest, with your hand on her chest to restrain. I like the upright one better because it's a sitting position, not dominating over kitty pitched forward to see, but it takes more practice to do that and keep from drowning the cat.
This method also works on smaller sized dogs, racoons, and largish rabbits. Haven't tested on much else. I do use this to give my Lab his medicine, except with him I dont have to cross my feet, my body blocks him enough, and then I can administer it the same as I do the cat. The first couple times you try this with your medium-size dog, watch out for him standing back up. Bumped my jaw pretty good the first time.
Hope this helps you guys out.

That is so awesome!!!!!!!! And I liked it so much, that I downloaded it, and converted it into flash, which means it's now half the file size of what it was and loads twice as fast..plus I added a replay button at the end of it and made it loop. I don't know if you have it in flash or so, but if you want that file, let me know! Do you have a website that I can link it to when somebody clicks on it maybe too?

You got talent!!! I like it a LOOOT, obviously hehee!
Can I use it on my kittenbaby.com? If so, what credits do you want me to use?

Thankies for the complements, it's just something I threw together real quick after I realized how confusing the written only version sounded. I just made with photoshop and assembled with Image ready. Flash and I aren't speaking right now...
If you have admin rights I'd love it if you would replace the gif version in my post with the flash one. And sure, you can use it. Just throw my name in at the bottom of the page if you want, It's already on the title shot anyway so no big deal really. Of course, now I haves to run off and check out your site.

Glad to hear that she's safe & sound. BTW, our cat Tiger, died this morning around 9.30AM Msian time. There's nothing much I can do b'coz I've been sick for more than a mth. Even now I still feel very sick. Just got to know her condition worsened this morning. I was abt to take her to the vet but she died in the car. I forgot to mention the weather is damn extreme hot & humid. Akeer is doing okay anyway. The Mother Cat got mouth infection & I don't think she's gonna get pregnant again.
Sorry MissDolittle, off-topic.

One thing I have learned. When it comes to give a cat meds, a bath or anything else that needs to be done that they don't like is:
1) you will most likely get scratched, bitten, ignored. etc.
2) you will live through it even if they act like they won't
3) they will forgive you sooner or later - if you ignore them after they will forgive you faster, if you try and get them to forgive you it will take longer because they know how to play us.
4) we will never ignore them after, so get used to being played by them.
