Found a kitty. Vet was closed, went to the local animal shelter. Got the nursing kit from them. His eyes are open, and he kinda crawl-stumbles around, so I make him like 2-3 weeks?

I am feeding him about 1/2 tbsp of formula every 4 hours or so. He will not stop crying. After he eats, I put him back in the box (towels inside, heating pad under half of it.)

Is there something we can do to help him stop meowing? Girlfried stimulated him to pee, so I don't think that's it. He doesn't seem too into the eating thing; when I put the nipple in his mouth and let the formula dribble in, he sucks it down, but he doesn't seem to seek out the nipple thing to keep on eating and finish the meal. Am I doing something wrong, or his he just missing his mother?

I will be taking him down to the vet tomorrow to get him checked out.

Hi armlesstigerman. Thank you for looking after this little one. :)

You say he has produced urine. Has he produced any stool? If he has what color is it? The reason I ask this is because the color can indicate if there are any problems such as the formula being to rich among other things.

MissDolittle has a website dedicated to helping raise an orphaned kitten. There is a lot of good information there which will help you give this little one the best start in life you can. You can find her site here: http://www.kittenbaby.com/

thanks for the reply. His urine is fine, according to the site and the paper from the animal shelter. He has also started producing stool, brownish diarhea.

We are using formula from a can, and pale yellow - to yellow urine would seem to indicate the proper level of hydration.

Vet found that the bump in his tail I had been feeling indicated that the tail had been broken, probably not doing wonders to his mood. It is now taped up. But now he sleeps well between feedings as long as we pet him and let him crawl around.

Thats good news!! Welcome by the way :).

In order to get control over the diarrhea, add a 1/3 of plain yoghurt to the
formula, it should take of that in a couple of days the most.

So 1/3 of plain yoghurt and 2/3 formula.

The constant meouwing did sound like he was in pain or just missed his
mom, depends on the sound of the crying. I had kittens that were at it
for hours and hours the first couple of days, nothing worked. And a day
later they were just purring :).

You are doing a good job at being a kitten parent! Keep up the good work.

Petting is good, a mother cat would clean the kitten often and you petting the little one simulates that and lets the little guy know he isn't alone. Wandering around is good too, they need to build up their muscles and get ready to become a very active kitten!

Please keep us posted. :)

hi nice to meet you! i'm glad your kitten is doing better. i'd be a foster mom for kittens, but i'd never want them to go, and i'd end up with fifty cats soon enough, lol. i think in MI we're allowed only three....

what kind of kitty is it?

Hehehe, I'm considering it a kitten nursery here, just as if you would work
in a hospital and take of infant humans, except the kittens don't have
parents, but will soon. Each kitten when ready to be adopted out makes a
family happy, makes it easy to let them go.

Sometimes I have ten at a time and I can't wait until they are ready to go, loool. I think the numbers make a difference. If I would have kept them
all, I would have over 500 cats running around here. Thanks but not thanks,
I do not like horders lol.

Hi all, just stopping back to thank you all for the advice. The kitten is fine and we decided to keep him. Nemo is pretty big now, and we have started getting his shots.

I don't know what kind of cat he is, but he's grey with black stripes.

Glad to hear the little one is doing well, this is wonderful news indeed!

Sounds like you have yourself a cute little Tiger Stripe. We would love to see a picture if you have one.
