Hi everyone,

We have another wild-animal situation on our farm, we have 3 baby raccoons living about 4 stories up in a cottonwood tree and we have recently learned that their feecies is extreemly dangerous for our orphaned colt to accidentally eat. That tree is in his pasture, and we must get rid of them, but killing them is not a option where my mom and I stand. We had a baby coon once and I love the animals, we have not seen their mother but it dosent mean shes not there. were not even sure how many there are in the tree but we know there are at least three and they havent come down, the cottonwood tree is VERY tall, and we cant reach them but they must be removed for Lewis's sake. (the orphaned colt/horse) and for our beloved cats who have been stalking them like they want to try and catch them, it would be a horriable loss to even loose one of them. Any sudgestions on how to remove them without killing them? This is just about as important as our skunk situation. :smile20:

That's easy: get a live trap and re-locate them :).

What is the extreme danger you are speaking of LDove? I'm curious since I haven't been able to locate anything concerning raccoon feces posing a danger to horses.

I'd say roundworms.

Ahhh Ok roundworms, I can see the concern. However since raccoons are not the only critters to carry and pass on these parasites I would recommend talking to a veterinarian about a deworming schedule.
