My cat left this one on the porch. (I know I shouldn't let the cat outside, it's an ongoing battle between my husband and I. The cat does have a bell at least).

It has a missing tail thanks to the cat. Downy feathers on its body but more adult-like then baby down (if that makes sense). It has feathered out wings with the typical mockingbird coloring so I figured out what it was easily enough.

I had brought it in to care for it but when I called the local wildlife rescue they said to put it back out under a bush for the mom to find. I did that about 3 hours ago but so far no one has come to take care of it. I had fed it some raisin this morning. Googling had said that was good but I guess not by the prior post. I was also soaking cat food so I gave that to him a few minutes ago when he started opening its mouth when I went to check on him.

I am trying not to check on him too much because I don't want to scare the parents away but I don't want to let him die either. How long should I give the mom and how often should I feed him if he's outside waiting for her?

The cat food I gave him was Costco brand maintenance. I have some IAMS regular too but no Purina kitten. I do have a cuttlebone in with the hermit crabs I could put on the food.

Also, I'm pregnant. The rehabber on the phone said handling it should be no problem if I wash my hands well. Does that sound right? I plan on rehabbing bats when I'm done with human babies but I guess I'm working on birds now.

Hmm, the problem with cat bites is that if the bird does not get antibiotics
immediately it has almost no chance to fight off the infection it will get from
bacteria that the cat harbors on her teeth.

If the cat carried the bird around and took it away from the location where
the nest is, I doubt the parents will follow.

If the cat did not bite through the skin and just ruffled the feathers, keep
doing what you are doing with the catfood.

If you are pregnant, I would even wear gloves when you touch the bird,
there can be parasites and baceterias that can harm you and your baby.

I'm sorry I didn't reply yesterday...is the bird still around?
