Nope I'm not even going to advertise, put in a URL or anything.

I am looking for help, I am so torn.

All I need is input.

Here's the situation: I've always had "off topic" general forums, but with the lack of membership felt I needed some sort of theme.

So for awhile I went with "sharing" website where you share files, ideas, links, pictures etc.

Well the domain I picked for that one sucked, but the idea still might work.

Then I changed to a files site, thinking I can have a torrent site. That's not going to work.

So any ideas?

I thought about a meerkat site once lol

Why is a torrent site not working? Besides the tremendous amount of traffic
you get after the site is promoted right, that is. Where is the problem
exactly? What is your goal?

That's part of the problem, I have no idea of a goal except having active discussions.

A torrent site just isn't something for me to do. I don't know..

Hmm, if you want to make a site, no matter what, you want something out
of it right? Lots of members, something to do, bringing a point across,
share information..sell something, whatever.

So what are your hobbies and most favorite things to do and talk about?

That's the problem, I have so many interests. I have knowledge of many things but limited to where I couldn't really have a site about them.

I'm picky too, can you tell? lol

Oh I hear ya! I know a little bit about everything, but not a lot about one thing.

Let me tell you my story, maybe it inspires ya.

I always loved animals, looks we have that in common or you wouldn't be
here, right?

I also loved to work on and with computers since they came out.

So these were my main 2 areas that you might call hobbies. That's where my
heart was and it never got boring. But I didn't know enough about both
hobbies, so I couldn't really do much with it...so I thought.

Then my 2 huskies ran down the screendoor when we just moved here and
one ended up killed by a car 5 years ago. The other dog ended up in the
animal shelter here, because it happened like 100 feet from the shelter.

I was so devestated, but also happy to have found my other dog unharmed.
I was so greatful that I made a nice little poster on the computer, printed
it out and brought it the shelter as a thank you.

They were so impressed that I was able to make posters like that, so we
got talking about computers and internet and websites. I offered to take
over their website, which wasn't really a site, just a cheap lil page.

And that's when it all started. They asked me if I knew this or that about
raising kittens. I said not really, but I can learn online. So they gave me
a litter of orphaned kittens to foster and raise and every time a kitten
moved, I looked it up online what it could be.

500 kittens later I made my own website about kittens, to share the stuff
I have learned. www.kittenbaby.com

In the meantime I learned that there is nobody in this and 3 surrounding
counties that take care of injured birds or other small urban wildlife and
that whatever animal control found, had to be euthanized.

I asked at the shelter what it would take to become a rehabber and they
helped me out in every way. Animal Control, the police, sheriff, mayor,
vets, you name it..they all took me under their wings. I also found a
rehabber that used to live here who taught me the details and whom I
can always call if something is up.

That's when I found out that it is not the cheapest thing to have a rescue at
home, so I looked around online if I can find a job. I ended up on
Rentacoder and found people that wanted websites about animals and they
PAID for it too...WHOAAA lol.

So I started making websites to support the rescue, doing the 2 things I
love the most.

By now I made over 100 websites, not only for animals, I have about
ten sites on my own and my list of clients is pretty long, they have to
stand in line by now. We got us a server and also offer hosting along with
design.

So think about it again. Pick the 2 things you like the very most and
concentrate on those, learn, get experience..whatever it takes. Nobody
needs to work a job that he/she doesn't like. :)

Yes I noticed, good job I hated it when the quotes didn't work.

Okay, the 2 things I like most would probably be computers and animals. But where do I go with the animals idea?

I didn't give it much of a chance but I started a site called WildlifeAid long ago. I think I made like 5 posts, realized how little I knew and shut it down.

Do you think I should try that again? Part of the problem too is that I'll think of an idea and once I do it think it stinks (like isocius.com the "sharing" site).

What kind of animal do you like most? And what's your favorite thing to do
on the computer? You gotta break it down, that's where the key is.

See, I love dogs for example. But making a site about dogs would be too
major. So I broke it down and come with just dog behavior.

Do you know the Dog Whisperer? I have learned SOOOOOO much about
dogs and why they do this and that and how I can correct it and know
what they need and what not, I'm thinking about starting a dog behavior
site, but all I would do is repeat what he says, and that's kinda copyright
I suppose lol.

This is part of the problem, I love all animals. The fox is one of my preferred animals but not enough to do a site on them alone?

Or should I? If I do will I stick with it?

Oh I forgot to mention I'm into photograpy to a point, nature stuff. No matter what the site becomes I will certainly have a section on that. If I start getting members and everything will save up for a gallery mod for the forums I own too.

Coool, about the photography..another thing we have in common hehehe.
http://www.amazes.us/album/ here over 3000 photos I took lol.

I also upload the best photos to stockphoto sites and make a few bucks
with them.

Of course you can make a site just about foxes..just like the squirrel board
is just about squirrels. And look how many members they have now. The
board is less than a year old.

However, you need to look into the demand too. How many people are
interested in Foxes and maybe even rehab them? I don't know of anybody.

But dogs or cats or other pets for example, absolutely. Big demand.

It took me years and years and the accident with my dog before I found
out what exactly I want to do and how to make it work. Just keep an
open mind and it'll come to you. Maybe it doesn't work right away, but
one day it will :).

That's the problem with going "fox" there aren't enough people even seeking information about them. So may stick with some wildlife theme?

Cats and Dogs are so common for sites, there are thousands of them out there.

That's what I said too, enough sites about dogs and cats. But I put up my
kittenbaby.com anyways and it turned out to be the best visited site of all
of my sites. People email me, ask questions, give me feedback and the
stats show 20 000 visitors a month. It also pays for itself because I have
google ads and affiliates on there.

You'll figure it out, all I can do is tell you what worked for me. :)
