Here's an update on Trinity:
I took Trinity in to stay with me about a month ago. I was going to teach her some basic obedience and some manners, before she went to live with her mother, Honey, because the owners were interested in adopting her.
Trinity had a rough first year of her life, and I was ready to do anything it took to get her ready to live with the disabled guy.
Little did I know that I'm going to end up doing a fundraiser for her hip surgery...
Trinity received a bad injury as a puppy which was left untreated. Somebody kicked her so badly that it popped the femur right out of the hip socket. Two days ago she was in such pain, that she cried and walked on 3 legs, so I finally took her to the vet.
When I saw that x-ray I couldn't believe it. Even the vet said he can't believe that she is even walking at all. The femur is riddled with holes and has worn off from bone grinding on bone, and it's basically held in place by just muscles.
So we have 2 options: pain pills for the rest of her life or FHO (Femoral Head Ostectomy: http://www.gcvs.com/Surgery/fho.htm )
We'll get away with 500 Dollars for everything, so we are going to start a fundraiser for her.
Thankfully, Honey's owners still want to adopt her and if she doesn't fit in for some reason, there is already a backup in place waiting to adopt her.
I'm just glad she displayed the symptoms before she was adopted out...I would have felt terribly bad giving a dog to somebody with a 500 dollar bill and lots of heartache attached.
I feel bad enough for having put her through all the training, which must have aggravated her hip, doing all the stop drop and rolling, and swimming and walking and running...unbelievable she didn't break down earlier.
But her future looks bright and that's all that counts! :smile29:
Here she is as a puppy on Christmas a year ago:

The surgery went well. It was more complicated than first thought, because the femur was severely deteriorated, but the prognosis is good. Her heartworm test was negative too, so I'm happy!!
I'll pick Trinity up at 10 am tomorrow morning!
