View Full Version : Smoke Inhalation

We had a big grass fire yesterday that burned some barns and sheds too. In one of them were 4 kittens, rescued in the last second. They were covered in sud and had singed noses, but they were alert and hungry. They are about 2 weeks old, eyes just open.

Today they are all coughing up a storm. I suppose they got some airway and/or lung damage from inhaling the heat and smoke.

Cross what you got that they will recover. So far it's tolerable and they are all eating and eliminating normally.

Here's before and after bathing and cleaning them pictures:

After cleaning, antibiotics and a good night's sleep:

If anybody has an idea what could help their coughing, let me know!

This is what it sounds like:

Edit: I just got a call from a girl that works at a vet and she wants to take the 2 worst ones with her to foster. I'm sure she can help them better at a vet's office!

Poor little things. Luckily they're all safe & luckily too the girl working at the vet wants to adopt two of them. It makes me wanted to cry looking at the pics. I'm sure they'll get better & recover soon.

I watched the VC. Never heard our cats or kittens cough before. I guess it must be the smoke causing irritation at their throat. BTW, did the girl from the vet adopt the kittens?

Well, the coughing has stopped and the 2 I have here are doing great! I don't know about the other 2 kittens that are with the girl at the vet's, but hopefully I will find out today.

No, she didn't adopt them, she does foster care just like me, but she lives in another town near by. She promised to email me with updates, but she hasn't done that yet.

Thanx for the updates. Glad to know they're doing fine. I'm sure the other 2 kittens stop coughing too.

I'm a bit worried abt our little kittens. It's raining heavily here since the last few days & it's cold day & nite. We let Pinky stays in the cage with the young kittens. One of them is very tiny & I'm really worried abt her. But she's active like the other two kittens.

The 2 I have stopped coughing on the third day and are thriving. I'm trying to find out if the ones on the pictures made it too.

Glad to see they look healthy. Just look at them. BTW MissDolittle, one of my kittens is dead this morning. I called him Munchy. Yesterday he looked fine, his body was warm but inactive although he also played with the other two kittens. I guess he's a bit tiny even though he ate a lot compared to the other kittens. It's raining season here & a bit cold.

That Teddy has raised more kittens that you want to see in your life LOL. I'm so surprised that it still looks as good as it does after so many washes.

I have 4 new kittens, 6 all together now:

These 4 new ones are just a few days old, momma got run over by a car.

And this is one of the fire kittens, all healed up:

Wowww....... they look so cute!!! I don't know why I'm so fascinated with young kittens even though I'm not a cat lover. I showed the fire kittens to the kids & they said they wish they can have the kittens. I told them that you're very far away. Otherwise I can adopt the kittens. That 4 kittens without their mom - you're going to feed them with kitten milk rite?

We used to have plenty of teddy bears but now I hardly see any in the house. The kids must have thrown them away. You know kids. Guess I've to buy one for our kittens. Last Sunday I sewed a small blanket for them. I'll sew a few soon. It's raining season back home.

BTW MissDolittle, Merry X'Mas.:smile21:

I feel the same way! I prefer to raise kittens, but I'm a total dog person lol.

Hi MissDolittle? How're the fire kittens doing? Hope to see the pics of the 4 kittens. I forgot to mention that our 2 young kittens are doing okay. I'm worried abt the continuous heavy rainfall bcoz I'm afraid they can't cope with the cold weather. Anyway, they look good.
